VOICE Society

Provides advocacy and support to youth in care and their families.

VAD is a peer-led advocacy organisation based in Edmonton, dedicated to reducing barriers and fostering full participation for people with all types of disabilities in Alberta.


Vision

To be the unified voice advocating for inclusive communities, equitable opportunities, and meaningful access for Albertans with disabilities .


Mission

To support individuals and organisations—government, schools, and businesses—in identifying and dismantling barriers, through resource sharing, education, and systemic advocacy.


Core Activities

  • Membership & Community Outreach: Open to individuals and organisations, offering newsletters and opportunities for involvement.
  • Awareness & Training: Offers presentations, consultations, and accessibility training to institutions, businesses, and public bodies.
  • Advocacy Work: Leads campaigns and engages policy-makers to advance disability rights and inclusion.

Governance & Structure

VAD operates as a volunteer-driven non-profit with a board of directors and staff, supported by different tiers of membership (individual, organisational, corporate).

  • Supports barrier-free housing initiatives and improves access to employment opportunities.
  • Elevates disability pride and awareness—e.g., publishing “The Voice” newsletter and participating in provincial Disability Pride Month.
